| This painting belongs to the ‘Vert-suite’ and originated from the revival of earlier works but then seen through the eyes of an experienced painter. This work is specifically a revival of the ‘Ode to life’ period in which the artist shows all facets of the moving and musical arts: ballet, opera, theatre and even the more frivolous moments of the carnival and the circus. It is a tribute to the woman in dance and other art forms. The legs and arms move in a parallel rhythmic diagonal direction against a horizontal background. It is not a static arrangement because the figures are not in the middle. The green hues of the dancers contrast with the warmer background. The works of Luc-Peter Crombé show a great love for the ballet and the beautiful movements of ballerinas in which his knowledge in anatomy, line of movement and colour can clearly be seen. The “Vert” suite is so named because the basic tone is different from all previous periods, which leads to a change from gray to green. |
